Deb's and I went to Colchester this weekend to the 3 Para Reunion Club function in the 3 Para Sgt's mess at Mervelle Bk's It was a first class do and well attended.
We met a number of old mates I served with in the 3 Para Patrol Company out in Borneo.
Merville Barracks is a fine looking establishment with would you believe multi storey car parks for the lads cars. But then did we not think Montgomery Lines were the business when we first moved in.
During his speech the CO 3 Para spoke about their up coming deployment to Afganistan and that he had been informed that they would be taking over the Sangin District. He also spoke about the fact that they were the only Btn, ever to serve a tour in Afganistan as they did on their last one and bring back everyone.
I pray their luck hold this time.
Happy Easter All.

Spent this evening with friends & family in the home of Ebie Moncrieff (Arnhem Vet) whose wife Gerry, 89, died this afternoon. Gerry (born Heerjte Schmidt, 1921) moved from Holland to Dutch Java (Indonesia) before WW2, where she married & became Mevrou (Mrs) Blinck. When the Japanese invaded the islands in 1941, she and her young baby, Popco, became POW's (Tenko style) until the Allied armies freed them in 1945. Around that time she met & fell in love with a dashing young British Paratrooper (Ebie), whom she married, and they returned to live and raise a family (Popco, Jim, Neske, & Callum) in Lerwick, Shetland. Subsequently, Gerry suffered from chronic arthritis, and the lasting effects of 4 years of captivity - all of which resulted in her being housebound for many years, and latterly bed-ridden. During her latter years she was cared for by Ebie, 24/7, only to pass away, suddenly but peacefully, this afternoon, with Ebie & Callum by her side.
RIP Gerry Moncrieff, a fine mother, a good wife, and a friend par excellence.
